Sometimes You Just Want To Bitch Slap These Guys

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits”

Albert Einstein

My business partner is mad.

No. More like furious.

Over what he calls the blatant stupidity of some company owners who just don’t get the power they hold in their hands.

He says it’s like watching a five year handle a loaded hand gun.

Here is what happened.

My business partner had a meeting a few days ago with a colleague who told him about a mobile phone application developed for businesses.

Where this application allows a business owner to create a list of people they can text a message to at anytime.

Now this application has been sold to a few restaurants here in my town.

And when my business partner asked about how it worked for the restaurants he was told “Pretty good.”

“So what exactly does pretty good mean?”

“Well one owner has got 70 people on his list over the past few weeks.”

“70? That’s it? Doesn’t he understand what kind of killer tool he has in his hands?”

“I guess not.”

This is the point where my business partner went on a rant.

You see once upon a time he used to manage restaurants and he knows how crucial it is to get repeat business.

He explained to me that using an application like this is almost like printing money.

People live, sleep and eat with their phones so there is nearly a 100% open rate on all text messages.

Here is how he says he would use the application if he ever had to consult with a restaurant owner.

First of all the main objective is to get as many people as possible signed up on that list (which he would rename “The V.I.P. List”).

You do that in two ways.

  1. have everyone in the whole restaurant *SELL* guests on the idea of getting on the V.I.P. list (this MUST become part of everyone’s job everyday).
  2. make being on that damn V.I.P. list so valuable you would be an idiot not to be on it.

The key to all this, of course, is to make being on the V.I.P. list extremely valuable. That way you will get your customers to spread the word for you and sign up in droves.

You need to offer killer specials, high value prizes, deals so good people cannot resist once they see a text coming in about it.

This works exceptionally well during all those predictable times when a restaurant is usually empty – like the late afternoons.

By sending out a text you can fill those empty seats with a killer offer that makes the guest so incredibly glad they were on the V.I.P. list.

Even if what you offer makes you “break even” you still come out ahead in four ways…

  1. You filled an otherwise empty seat
  2. The guests will want to come back again and look forward to your next text
  3. The guests will tell their friends about the spectacular deal
  4. When people know they are saving money, many times they spend what they save on alcohol or other food (appies, dessert, etc)

Now, once you’ve built the V.I.P. list to reach a certain number of subscribers you can scale back (or keep) the value of the offers you send out. If you notice people unsubscribing faster than new ones are subscribing you can adjust the value of the offer on the texts.

The amount of creative fun you can have with the list is endless.

You can have themes like red shirt day during 4pm and 6:30 pm where you get 2 for 1 meals if you wear a red shirt.

Or once a month you can offer cheap iPads or tablets as a contest prize to those who comes in, show you the text on their phone and orders the special you have on.

This whole text messaging your own V.I.P. list is such an easy concept to implement yet most restaurant owners have no clue the kind of power it holds for them.

They get all excited about it in the beginning and then let it slide as time goes on.

The thing is, results will not be immediate – they accumulate slowly which is why it HAS to be part of everyone’s job everyday to sell guests on being on the V.I.P. list.

It will not build itself.

But if you spend the time to build it, you will get to the point where it will be like printing money every time you send out a text.

But like my business partner says, a lot of restaurant owners would rather be stupid than rich.

They prefer the pain of worrying how to pay the bills to the joy of putting thousands in the bank.

They prefer slaving away for hours in their business rather than being able to take a vacation when they want.

They prefer to complain about how bad business is like the losers you see on carpet cleaning forums rather than building profitable empire.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Sometimes you just wanna bitch slap these guys.

But do you want to know what the really sad thing is?

It’s not just restaurant owners that act like this. Owners of area rug cleaning companies act like this too.

I know because they’ve called and asked me for help yet refuse to do what is necessary.

They refuse to do the things GUARANTEED to make them money day in and day out.

Like, for instance, getting “Instant” Google reviews.

Why is a Google review so profitable?

Because the more 4 & 5 start reviews you have the more you will stand out from your competition.

Once you know the secret to getting your customers to give you a 5 star review – WHILE STILL IN YOUR SHOP – you will become more profitable.

Because eventually customers come and tell you (like they now tell me) the reason they chose you was because of *ALL* the Google Reviews.

You can’t beat the power of social proof.

And no, getting Instant Google Reviews will not make an immediate difference.

But like the restaurants I talked about above – it has to be part of what you do when people pick up their rugs.

The more you do it, the more reviews you get.

The more reviews you get, the better your Google rankings become.

The better your rankings are the more your *huge* amount of reviews stand out.

The more your reviews stand out the more people read them.

The more people read them, the more customers you are going to get.

Is getting “Instant” Google reviews a sexy, shiny object?

Nope. It’s about as dull, boring and unpolished as you can get.

But it’s one that in long term is unbeatable for convincing new prospects to be your customers.

Plus – “Instant” Google Reviews is easier, faster and more convenient for you and your customer than those old fashioned testimonials (but just as powerful).

So why do so many people refuse to make getting Instant Google Reviews a part of doing business like cleaning rugs and getting paid?

Maybe it seems like a lot work (it’s not).

Maybe the results are not fast enough (I’ll take long term profits over quick cash any day).

Maybe they’re stupid (you decide).

Whatever the reason, you don’t have to be like them. Here’s how you can start getting instant google reviews for your business as soon as tomorrow…
